Step 1: Install it
Pick your platform — every feature is identical on all of them:
- Chrome — free from the Chrome Web Store.
- Edge — free from Edge Add-ons.
- Firefox — free from Firefox Add-ons.
- Mac, iPad & iPhone — one $5 purchase on the App Store. The Safari extension is included.
Step 2: Open the editor
- In a browser: click the Markdown Editor icon in your toolbar. The editor opens in its own tab.
- On Apple devices: open the Markdown Editor app like any other app.
Step 3: Write
Just start typing in the left pane — the preview renders live on the right.
- Markdown works as you'd expect:
# heading,**bold**,- list. - Your document saves automatically as you type. The status bar shows saved ✓ when it's stored.
- Press ⌘ + / anytime for the built-in markdown cheatsheet.
Where things live
- Documents — the file icon in the header lists every document.
- Settings — the gear icon holds themes, fonts, writing tools, and the chaos zone.
- Help — the question-mark icon opens the markdown guide and shortcut list.
Privacy note: everything is stored on your own device. No account, no cloud, no tracking — and it all works offline.
